Do I need a passport to visit Cuba?
Cuban regulations require that all travelers have a passport that is valid for six or more months. It is not allowable for your passport to expire within this time period after the last scheduled date of your visit. A Tourist Visa is also required for travel to Cuba and can be attained at the Cuban Embassy.
Who can visit Cuba?
The answer to this question is a little more complicated than it might seem.
As of April 13th, 2009, the restrictions on Cuban-Americans traveling to Cuba have been lifted recently as well as sending money and medicines. Americans can still visit Cuba under a general license or one of the specific licenses offered. Most travelers can obtain a general license that will permit them to travel to Cuba, spend money to finance their trip, and participate in the local flavor. Those that will be traveling for a more specific purpose probably will qualify for special permission under one of the control licenses.
Do hotels and tourist attractions speak much English?
Normally, the larger tourist attractions and lodging facilities do speak fluent English. However, English is not the predominant language in Cuba. Committing a few key Spanish phrases to memory might not be such a bad idea.
Is the water safe to drink?
No, the water in Cuba is not safe to drink. Ice and other things that use water that has not been boiled should be avoided unless it is determined that bottled water was used in preparation instead of normal tap water.
Is it dangerous to visit Cuba?
Cuba is one of the safest Caribbean Islands. While violent crime is virtually unheard of, it is wise to be intelligent about traveling in general. Making an unnecessary show of money, jewelry, and hotel room keys is an invitation to unsavory sorts in any city or country.
What’s the best time to visit?
The peak tourist season for Cuba is during the winter months. During this time Cuba enjoys a sunny tropical weather scheme. The temperature remains warm all year round considering the proximity to the equator. Cuba does have a rainy season as well as being susceptible to hurricanes. Normally the rainy season occurs from May until October and towards the end the risk of hurricanes becomes an issue.
What can I expect as far as accommodations?
As with any other vacation destination, accommodations can vary based on your budget. Cuba has accommodations available for the most frugal traveler as well as the most extravagant.
If I am injured while visiting, will they take my health insurance?
More than likely your health insurance will not be accepted in Cuba. It is advisable to purchase travel health insurance. There are many different types of policies available and most are reasonably priced, especially considering the peace of mind that they afford.

There are many cigar tours that are extremely interesting for those that love nothing more than the world’s finest perfecto.
